After a year and a half of blogging and over 340 blogs, I took some time out this Christmas holiday to look back over all my entries and to think about where the inspiration and insights for my blogs come from. No easy task, trying to find the source of inspiration!
Some believe the source of inspiration is divine. Others seek inspiration in the quiet of introspection. Many find inspiration in the chaos of life and living.

Jack London was born in 1876 in San Francisco, then a bustling sailing port and growing city. He worked many different jobs during his lifetime including seaman, factory worker, railroad hobo, and even gold prospector in Klondike. Jack London engaged with life at its fullest and most rugged. He worked hard and lived hard, and I believe this is where he found inspiration for his over 50 novels and short stories in a lifespan that stretched only 40 years.
As I reflected this past Christmas it dawned on me that my inspiration and ideas for my blogs,and my four thriller novels, as well as my business books, has all come from active engagement with exotic travel, challenging life situations, consulting clients and business challenges. When I sit around and try to think up things, to be clever and inspired, I only wind up getting depressed. But when I am out interacting, challenging the status quo, jumping on airplanes to meet a new client, or leading a leadership team workshop, that’s when I am most inspired.

So, after two months at home finishing my latest business book – FASTBREAK: The CEO’s Guide to Strategy Execution (soon to be available on Amazon.co.uk), this coming Wednesday I am off for a week and a half of client meetings, coaching, speeches and consulting challenges. Getting excited already, and hopefully. . . inspired.
